Progressive Cabinetry shuts the door on Moss Builders

Progressive Cabinetry shuts the door on Moss Builders

In week three of the adult indoor soccer season at The Center, Kevin Roman’s Progressive Cabinetry team continues to dominate the league along with Keith Mahoney’s Ugly Grouper squad, both with 3-0 records.

Progressive faced off against the Moss-less Moss Builders team in the second game of the night in a passionately played game. Miguel Ajoy started off the scoring for the Moss Builders’ team in the first minute of the game.

Roman followed up with the first of seven goals in the game only seconds later.

With the score tied 1-1, the game would continue to be a battle of the defenses and hotshots.

Jessica Williams, for Progressive Cabinetry, took her first shot at point-blank range. Moss’ Omar Polar, playing goalkeeper, made one of many miraculous saves.

Juan Carlos scored his first goal in the fourth minute of the game, giving Moss Builders the lead once again with the score at 2-1.

Lyn Clarke put the soccer ball in the net with a ricochet shot only to be followed by a goal for Progressive’s Murat Akay.

In the seventh minute of play, Williams got the ball to the feet of Diego Felipe. With his head up, seeing the field, Felipe found Roman in the perfect position for the tying goal.

Akay helped his team take the lead four minutes later with another goal, advancing the score to 3-4.

With Moss Builder’s keeper David Greene out of position, Roman had the opportunity for a shot and easy goal.

Carlos responded by putting the soccer ball in the net after the Moss Builders’ offense drew Felipe, now working as the keeper, out of position.

Working with a one-point lead, Progressive worked on defense but could not stop Polar, who tied the game once again with the score 5-5.

Two minutes later, Roman found the net once again.

The back and forth game continued until the half. Carlos got a shot off with the last seconds of the first half of play quickly ticking off the scoreboard clock. Diego just could not stop Carlos’ shot, once again tying the game at 6-6 to end the half.

To start the final 20 minutes of the game, Roman snuck the soccer ball past goalie Greene after a beautiful long pass by Akay.

With a one-point lead, Williams quickly took advantage of her team’s scoring momentum with a shot of her own that could not be stopped, moving the score to 6-8.

Scoring his second goal of the game, Moss Builders’ Ajoy was finally given the ball after a long series of passes by both teams.

Williams scored her second goal after a cross by teammate Roman. The roles were soon reversed a minute later with a Williams’ assist to Roman to change the score to 7-10.

Moss Builders scored a goal of its own four minutes later. Polar put the ball in the goal with a header 15 seconds later, closing the scoring gap to 9-10.

The back and forth goal scoring kept the game exciting for the next two minutes of the game. Missile shots Steve Oelfke, Akay and Felipe were matched by a Moss Builders’ goal by Carlos.

Scoring ceased momentarily with the score at 10-13 and Progressive Cabinetry leading by three goals. Carlos scored once again in the 32nd minute.

Neither team tiring, the last five minutes of the match-up would prove to be a scoring feast for the spectators to enjoy.

Williams made a gorgeous cross-court pass to Roman, who found Akay all by himself at the net, giving the Progressive Cabinetry team its 14th goal of the game.

Moss Builders’ Carlos hit his last goal of the night, pushing the score to 14-12.

Back-to-back scoring by Progressive’s Felipe, with the last net and one minute left in the game, gave his team a four-point lead.

To end the game with amazing saves by keeper Oelfke, Moss’ Polar scored his final goal with only 17 seconds on the clock to end the game with the score 13-16.

ANNA MARIA – The Florida rains could not stop the action on the indoor soccer pitch. Last week brought an end to the youth indoor season with two action-packed games.

After 40 minutes of play, Moss Builders took the championship medals in a close match-up against Ugly Grouper in the Intermediate League made up of the community’s youngest players.

G&G Yardscaping ran away with the win against an enthusiastic Ugly Grouper squad, giving it the championship honors for the Advanced League.

To start the first game the referee determined possession with a friendly battle of rock, paper, scissors, with Ugly Grouper winning the offensive position.

The game featured an excellent passing game by Moss Builders’ Dylan Sato and his teammates.

Mason Moss was awarded with the first scoring statistic in the game on a free kick, after an initial tap of the ball by Sato. Moss’ free kick went untouched past the Ugly Grouper defenders at the goal.

Ahead by a goal, Jackson Titen found the net for the first time in the game after four minutes of play, giving his team a two-point lead.

Less than a minute later, Sato scored his own goal, taking the score to 3-0, with plenty of time left in the league’s final game of the season.

In an effort to stop the scoring, the Ugly Grouper defense started to clump together near the net, eventually gaining possession of the soccer ball.

Hunter Titen made a nice defensive block of an Ugly Grouper strike. Jack Zaccagnino took a shot on goal that went just wide, right of the post.

Miles Moss, younger brother of Mason, showed tenacity at the wall to take back the soccer ball for Moss Builders. Meanwhile Mason Moss, essentially serving as the goalie protecting his net without the use of his hands, made huge stops preventing a score by Ugly Grouper.

J. Titen put the soccer ball through the legs of the last defender for the fourth goal for Moss Builders.

Ugly Grouper got on the scoreboard after 12 minutes of action with a spirit-sparking goal by Jackson Rosas. Rosas got the audience and his team excited with a second goal less than a minute later, tightening the score to 4-2.

Rosas played alongside Joseph Rosas during the season along with Brady Thompson, bringing the Ugly Grouper team to the big game.

With fearless play, Ugly Grouper’s Jasmine Sparks lit up the court with her defensive battles against the boys of Moss Builders.

Scoring the last goal for his team, Jesse Zaccagnino took a beastly shot that flew by Mason Moss.

After several three-line violation calls for both teams, the first half of the game ended with the score 4-3.

Both teams struggled to make anything happen on the indoor court. Moss Builders’ offense looked flat until the 31st minute of the game with a beautiful shot by Brandon Sato that went just right of the post.

Jesse Zaccagnino took the soccer ball down the floor, making a textbook cross-court pass to Sparks, who was just slightly out of position in front of the Moss Builders’ net.

Another three-line violation gave Mason Moss his second free kick scoring opportunity. In a repeat move, Dylan Sato tapped the yellow ball, giving Moss the freedom to take the scoring kick right into the Ugly Grouper net.

With the score 5-3, J. Titen got his hat trick with less than three minutes left on the clock, once again giving Moss Builders a three-point lead.

The Ugly Grouper team never called it quits, playing hard until the final buzzer. In the final seconds of the game, Jesse Zaccagnino’s shot was stopped by Mason Moss, ending the game with the score of 6-3.

In the second championship game of the night for the Advanced League, G&G Yardscaping handily earned the win against AMI Locals. The Locals squad put up a good fight and made their opponent work for the W.

Late team add-on Elek Brisson protected his team’s net for the majority of the game, forcing the G&G team to make excellent shots.

AMI Local’s Mary Harrison played tough defense, using her speed and toughness on the pitch to force the G&G offense to pass the soccer ball around the court.

G&G Yardscaping’s Cale Rudacille made great passes at midcourt to give his team scoring position on the AMI Local’s side of the line.

Rudacille’s teammate, Kate Stembridge, was a force to be reckoned with in front of the goal on defense. G&G’s squad with Payton and Ava Harlan and Hudson Green fought hard in the final game, just as they did throughout season.

Throughout the game, G&G’s Ryan Joseph played an unselfish game, despite his immense experience and soccer talent. Time and time again Joseph maneuvered his way down the court looking for Connor Samblis to take the shot.

With the exception of one, Samblis’ strikes sailed the ball missing the net.

Joseph scored the first of his four goals in the game after more than 17 minutes of action, giving his team a 1-0 lead. His second score came with just 30 seconds left on the scoreboard clock to end the half.

Leading by two points, G&G worked soundly on offense with a great pass by Rudacille to Samblis. The shot went to the side of the net for no score.

Samblis found his groove for his solo score in the 27th minute of the championship game, taking the score to 3-0.

One minute later, Brisson scored his team’s only goal, giving his team hope with only a two-point deficit. Throughout the season, Evan Talucci worked hard on the pitch along with AMI Locals teammates Dalton Fox, Jack and Jay Harrison, and standout visitor Carsyn Deligans.

AMI Locals’ Savana Coba took her shot that went just right of the post 28 minutes into the game and followed up with a heads up defensive stop a minute later.

In the last seven minutes of the game, G&G Yardscaping went on a scoring spree starting with a goal by Samblis. Rudacille ripped the ball for a shot attempt that was just right of the goal.

Joseph hit his team’s fifth and sixth goals in less than 30 seconds, leading G&G Yardscaping to the championship win with the score 6-1 to end the youth indoor play for the season.

Adult co-ed sports up the challenge

As the youth indoor soccer season moves to a close, the adults take to the indoor gridiron for the first time in years at The Center of Anna Maria Island. Meanwhile, the big kids also continue to play the adult co-ed soccer league, playing the third week of the summer season.

The top of the rankings on the gridiron have four of the six teams with tied records of two wins and a single loss. Teams Lancaster Design, Progressive Cabinetry, Moss Builders and Gulfview Windows and Doors share position at the top of the heap with more than half the season still to play.

Team Hasmark Sports lost in a close one against Gulfview, taking its record to 1-2. Still seeking its first win, Team Ugly Grouper played a tough game against another veteran squad in Lancaster Design.

In the game against Team Ugly Grouper, Lancaster Designs’ Anthony Mannino grabbed the catch for three touchdown receptions, along with two touchdowns for teammate Karri Stephens. With his solid hands, Jay Hoffmeister added critical three extra points in the game.

Ugly Grouper’s Anthony McCance and Sirkevius Williams both put points on the scoreboard in the game, but their efforts just were not enough to overcome the other team.

Team captain Ryan Moss threw for four passing touchdowns, as well as caught a touchdown of his own in the second game last Thursday night for Gulfview Windows and Doors. Tyler Lancaster, Brandin Holcomb and Jordan DeMers all had scoring receptions of their own, assisting in their team’s win.

In the loss, Hashmark Sports’ Chase Richardson and Corey Banks put six points on the board, with follow-up point-afters by Octavious Cole.

Ray Gardner led his team to another victory with two passing throws that lead to touchdowns and two end-zone victory dances in Moss Builders’ win against Progressive Cabinetry.

Gardner’s teammates, Mike Gillum and Jon Moss, took the football to the end zone in the game, scoring 32 points between the three of them. The team’s scoring was topped with an extra point conversion by Chad Woods, who had three catches in the game.

Despite the loss, Progressive Cabinetry had three players who put up points – Ben Sato, Skylar Sostack and Jaret Rojas.

Facing the small nets and the boards in the Island’s gymnasium, the adults started the indoor soccer season with six games going head-to-head. With scores that look like American football scores, the fast-paced game had the yellow indoor soccer balls whizzing by the goalies.

Progressive Cabinetry spread the scoring among all six players on the team’s roster. In addition to their goals, Ryley Moore, Diego Felipe and Steve Oelfke had goalie stats of their own with critical saves.

Team captain Keith Mahoney scored five goals for his team, along with scores by Jose Urbiola Bolanos and Jason Chiofalo. Chiofalo had 10 saves in the game in addition to the eight saves by Freddy Lenhert in the team’s effort.

Goalie Robb Marshall’s 14 saves just were not enough for Slim’s Place in its fight against Moss Builders. Lexi Sato, Teddy Louloudes and Jose Casaras put the ball in the net past Moss Builder’s goalie Omar Polar.

Juan Carlos, with five goals for Moss Builders, added to the six total goals by Miguel Ajoy and Anil Akbulut for their team’s win.

Team Ugly Grouper, led by Chris Klotz, squeaked by Sato Real Estate in the final indoor game of the night. Klotz had eight saves and two goals in the night. John Haggerty stopped nine strikes and had a goal of his own.

Grouper’s Olaf Krause took it to the net twice, and Yuri Pereira put on the heat with his four goals and the team’s win.

Josh Sato, Adam Bujarski, Ryan Moss and Mark Rudacille put up a total of seven goals in the game, with four saves by Moss and five by Rudacille to end the night of adult indoor soccer.

With the youth indoor soccer league finishing with the championship games this week, the adults will supply the sports action for the rest of the summer at The Center.

The first playoff game of the youth indoor soccer season was last Thursday night, with the winner of the game going on to the semifinal round.

The Long-Roadman family team, along with Emma Raulerson, fought the good fight against Team Cloud Pest Control on the indoor arena at The Center for the final playoff spot.

Team Solid Rock Construction had a strong defensive force well into the first six minutes of play with Stella Long and cousin Eli Roadman on the court.

Cyrus Ryan proved to be a force to be reckoned with on offense for Cloud Pest Control, scoring his first goal near the seventh minute of the game.

With the score 1-0, Long tried to tie up the game 12 minutes into the match-up only to have her shot go just to the right of the post.

Isabella Roadman took her own shot for Team Solid Rock Construction. Ryan made the block to prevent the score.

Isabella made another beautiful scoring attempt that went off the post, as players and spectators gasped in anticipation and disappointment.

Cyrus’ sister, Calla, scored the second goal for Cloud with less than four minutes in the first half, advancing the score to 2-0.

Three minutes into the second half of play, Braelyn Curtis took a hard shot that went off of the foot of a Solid Rock player for an own goal giving Team Cloud Pest Control a three-point lead.

All alone right in front of the net was C. Ryan, who received a beautiful pass from his teammate, giving Cloud Pest Control a 4-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the game.

This summer’s indoor soccer action at The Center includes two skill levels and age group divisions: Intermediate (five- to nine-year-old) and Advanced (10- to 14-year-old).

In the first game of the third week of play, the intermediate teams of Moss Builders and Island Vacation Properties faced each other in 40 minutes of rapid-fire action.

Dylan Sato started the play for Moss Builders. Immediately, Maddie Kimmons showed what a defensive powerhouse she is for Island Vacation Properties.

Sato brother Brandon made a nice reaching attempt to stop the soccer ball, but just could not quite get to it.

Six minutes into the game, Moss Builder’s Jackson Titen made a nice shot attempt. Teammate Mason Moss hit a rocket shot that was stopped by Kimmons, playing by the net.

Sato made a shot attempt that went just right of the post seven minutes later.

Island Vacation Properties made a great run down the field before being stopped by Moss.

With three minutes left on the scoreboard, Moss made another shot attempt, finding Kimmons away from the goal.

Despite what looked to be domination on the field by Moss Builders, the first half of play ended with the score 0-0.

Island Vacation Properties started the second half play. Camden Rudacille made a nice pass down the line. Kimmons was caught off guard allowing the first Moss Builders’ goal.

Implementing the three-line rule, teammates are required to touch a long pass before it crosses the third critical line down the court.

After a near own-goal by Moss Builders, Brandon Sato shot the Moss team’s second goal of the game. Moss followed two minutes later with another ball in the net, pushing the score to 3-0.

The Moss Builders team put its fourth goal on the board less than three minutes later.

Miles Moss worked with his team on the court allowing big brother Mason a clear shot over everyone’s heads for the team’s fifth goal.

Mason Moss hit another perfect shot for the final point of the match with a little more than four minutes left in the game, to end with the score 6-0.

Getting out of the heat of the summer, The Center’s gym is filled with soccer enthusiasts to play and watch indoor soccer Island style. With the Ross Built Construction boards up and the stage occupied by fans and players, the fuzzy yellow soccer ball whizzed across the court last Tuesday night.

Team Ugly Grouper matched up against Team AMI Locals in a game that ended in a tie after 40 minutes of fast-paced action.

The scoring started with a goal by Savanah Coba for AMI Locals just one minute into play. The team quickly took possession of the soccer ball to put another shot into the net, giving AMI Locals a two-point lead.

Without goalies in the game, the defense in the indoor soccer league has to play tough to protect its house. Both teams effectively utilized one player as a quasi-goalie, unable to use their hands in play.

Jayden Sparks scored a goal for Ugly Grouper putting the score to 2-1.

Coba took a nice shot only to be stopped by Jack Whiteside, Ugly Grouper’s goalie.

Newly added player Carsyn Deligans, visiting the Island for the season, showed the players and spectators she is a force to be reckoned with on the indoor soccer arena with the first of three goals in the game.

Utilizing their feet, heads and the walls, the two advanced teams fought hard for possession and position. The score moved closer after an own goal for AMI Locals.

With the score 3-2, a one-point lead for AMI Locals, the game headed into half time.

AMI Locals started the second half of play with a kickback to a defensive teammate. Evan Talucci, with Team AMI Locals, showed why he was named Goalie of the Year in the previous soccer season – this time playing without the use of his hands.

Will Wright scored his first goal of the game with Talucci just a little too far away from the net.

An accidental handball by Team Ugly Grouper allowed a direct penalty kick by Jack Harrison to hit the net and tie the game at 4-4.

Deligans scored another goal, once again giving her team the lead. Angelina Albrecht tried to close the gap with a shot saved by Talucci.

With 10 minutes left on the scoreboard clock, Albrecht took another shot, this time against Deligans who blocked the shot.

A minute later, Ugly Grouper tied it back up. Dalton Fox took the soccer ball down the court until there was one man to beat. Fox took the shot and scored for AMI Locals.

Jackson Long brought the game back to an even score, getting a strike past Talucci.

Albrecht and Long worked together, using the boards to move the ball into scoring position. Victor Albrecht took his own shot that went just right of the post.

Hoping to regain the lead and end the game with a win, Deligans showed an incomparable hustle and skilled footwork.

Deligans’ first shot sailed right of the post. Her next shot was blocked by Whiteside. As the clocked ticked down, Whiteside maintained the tie for his team with another save on the Deligans strike, ending the game with the score 6-6.

The spring 2019 adult co-ed soccer season came to a close last Thursday night June 27 with three spectator-pleasing games. With the inevitable back-to-back games leading to the battle for the Hayward Cup, all four teams in the semifinals had to give it their all hoping to have enough left to win the final game of the season.

In the first game of the night, first seed Team Gulfview Windows and Doors met up against Jiffy Lube, the fourth seed coming into the playoffs. The play in regulation time ended with the score at 6-6, taking the game to a shootout.

With Sean Flynn in the goal for Team Jiffy Lube, Gulfview’s Keith Mahoney made the first shot. Omar Polar followed with a goal of his own against Jordan DeMers for Gulfview.

Team Captain Ryan Moss’s shot went wide of the post giving Jiffy Jube a chance to make the go-ahead shot. Ricky Anderson’s laser focus strike hit the net.

Aaron Parkin made Flynn go the wrong way, making easy work of his shot, tying the goal count. Looking for the go-ahead point, Jiffy Lube’s Emily Argeros missed her shot opening the door for Jose Urbiola Bolanos of Gulfview.

Bolanos’ shot sailed into the goal after hitting the hands of keeper Flynn. Jiffy Lube’s captain Danny Anderson drilled his shot into the post missing the shot.

A late addition to the Gulfview team, PJ Smargisso sealed the deal for his team with a successful strike, putting the team into the first championship slot.

Although with less scoring, the second semifinal game also finished in a shootout with the score after 50 minutes of play 1-1. Fifth seed Team Flynn Law, playing without Sean Flynn, started on defense with Mark Rudacille at the net attempting to stop the shot of Team Beach House Real Estate’s team captain Kris Yavalar. Yavalar started the final shots off with a goal.

Flynn Law’s Tyler Robinson took his position to make his strike against Cliff Powell. Robinson’s shot soared away from the goal.

David Greene, for Beach House, and Flynn Law’s Lexi Sato both made their shots. Ryley Moore missed the next shot for Team Beach House, and Flynn Law’s captain, Kevin Roman, made his tying goal.

Nick Bouchard had perfect placement with his shot and Olaf Krause’s shot went off of Powell’s hand right into the net.

With even goals, Beach House Real Estate’s Adam Bujarski put in the winning shot, despite Rudacille’s goal attempt, moving his team to the final match-up for the league title.

The game for the cup started with 23 minutes on the scoreboard and Beach House Real Estate with the first touch of the soccer ball. Six minutes into the game, Parkin found Moss down the field providing the opportunity for a cross to Ashley Friszman, who scored the first goal of the game.

After a misstep on the field leading to a penalty kick, Yavalar took and made the shot, tying the soccer game.

Moss made a beautiful shot with eight minutes left in the first half that went right into the arms of goalie Powell. Moore hit his shot for Beach House starting the back and forth scoring battle.

Gulfview Windows and Doors’ Mahoney tied the game with a free kick with less than one minute on the scoreboard.

The scoring of the second half of the game started with Beach House’s Bouchard with a little more than 16 minutes on the clock. Parkin’s tying shot, making the score 3-3, brought excitement to the crowd that was looking for another shootout finish.

Gulfview prevented that outcome with a strong run by Parkin to move the soccer ball to the Beach House end of the field, giving Mahoney another scoring opportunity.

Mahoney’s goal was soon followed by teammate Parkin’s score, giving their team a two-goal lead.

A strong defense kept Beach House from taking a shot, earning Gulfview Windows and Doors the ultimate league prize, the Paul “Ace” Hayward Cup, giving Moss his first championship in several years.

Jiffy Lube dominates on the pitch

The last game of the regular season last Wednesday night, June 19, was just the beginning of the dominating soccer play by Team Jiffy Lube. In a shocking defeat against the number one ranked team, Gulfview Windows and Doors, Danny Anderson’s Jiffy Lube squad paved its way to the quarterfinal games to be played Thursday night.

Despite its nearly flawless record, Gulfview, lead by Ryan Moss, could only put one goal on the scoreboard.

Jiffy Lube started quick out of the gates with the one-two punch of Anderson and Omar Polar. Anderson’s pass to Polar was right on the money, allowing Polar to hammer the shot less than five minutes into the game.

Three minutes later, Anderson got his first goal after several shots were taken and saved by Gulfview goalkeeper Jordan DeMers, who was credited with nine saves in the game.

Veteran player Ed Moss scored the one and only point for his son’s team in the ninth minute of play, taking the score to 2-1.

Flawless play by Jiffy Lube and unforced errors by Gulfview allowed Anderson to hit the net for the second time in the game.

With a two-goal lead, the game became a defensive battle leading up to the half. Jiffy Lube keeper Robb Marshall worked hard to keep the soccer ball out of his net with eight saves in the game.

To start the second half of play, Ricky Anderson scored his team’s fourth goal only to be followed by another goal by teammate Anil Akbulut, advancing the score to 5-1.

Moss took over in goal, putting DeMers on the field. Jiffy Lube’s Eliza Falliace took her shot only to be saved by R. Moss.

Taking the ball the full length of the pitch at The Center, D. Anderson found a scoring opportunity and took the shot for his team’s sixth goal.

Falliace took another shot against R. Moss that went just left of the post. R. Anderson fired a cannon that was just over the crossbar.

With less than eight minutes left in the game, Falliace hit the net for a goal of her own, widening the Jiffy Lube lead with a score of 7-1 to finish the game.

In a season with 10 teams, wild card games between the bottom four teams had to be played to determine the quarterfinal contenders. Moss Builders, lead by Diego Felipe, took the field against defending champions Sato Real Estate with team captain Josh Sato.

After 50 minutes of play, the regulation play ended with the score of 3-3, leading to a shootout. Sato Real Estate came out on top despite rocket shots by Amy Ivin and Jake Parsons. Goalkeeper Jason Sato’s skillful saves gave his brother’s team the opportunity to finish on top critical goals by Josh Sato, Murat Akay, and Steve Wertovitch.

The last quarterfinal game played Thursday night ended in another nailbiter. Once again, fifth seed Team Jiffy Lube prevailed, but this time in a shoot out after regulation play ended with the score 3-3 against the fourth seed Blalock Walters squad.

Missed shots by Matt Plumber and Stephen Perry, against Jiffy Lube keeper Sean Flynn, cost the team of lawyers the game. The netted shots by Greg DeMeuse and Matt Staggs just were not enough against the skillful strikes of O. Polar, Emily Taylor, R. Anderson and D. Anderson. Blalock goalie Scott Rudacille’s agility and talent just was not enough Thursday night.

The stage is set for this Thursday’s semifinal match-ups and the championship game. Gulfview Windows and Doors will face Jiffy Lube June 27 at 6 p.m., while Flynn Law will take on Beach House Real Estate at 7 p.m. The championship game for the Paul “Ace” Hayward cup will be played at 8:30 p.m. with the winners of the two earlier games to end another season of adult co-ed soccer at The Center.

The rain flooded the fields at The Center Thursday night, but not before the adult soccer players took to the pitch the night before. Nearing the end of the regular season, two games were played Wednesday night, with Blalock Waters and Ross Built Construction emerging as the victors.

Finding redemption after its loss to Team Flynn Law last week, Team Blalock Waters handily defeated the young skill-filled team sponsored by Duncan Real Estate.

With new players on the roster, Blalock took the early lead after 11 minutes of play with two goals. The single goal for Duncan Real Estate hit the net on a strike by Joey Hutchinson during that time despite numerous shots taken by Hutchinson and Clancy Vaughan.

Blalock struck gold again with less than three minutes left in the half, advancing the score to 3-1.

Four minutes into the second half, Matt Staggs score the last Blalock Walters goal.

Skaggs’ goal added cushion to the goals by Greg DeMeuse, Matt Plummer and newcomer Dan VanEtten.

Neither team could score a goal in the last 19 minutes of the match-up. Misstrikes and a strong defense left the score 4-1, with 12 saves by Trey Horne for Duncan Real Estate and nine for Blalock Walters’ own Scott Rudacille.

A minor tweak of the schedule keeps the Paul “Ace” Hayward Cup championship game on track for a Thursday, June 27, at 8:30 p.m.

Heading into the last week of regular season soccer action at The Center, the adult players continue to battle for ranking.

This season, because of the extraordinary number of participants, playoff wild-card games will be held on Wednesday, June 19 between the last four seeded teams in the league. Working to avoid back-to-back games next week with two regular-season game nights left, the four wild-card spots could belong to any team with a few upsets, wins or losses.

Last week’s two nights of action pitted two law firm-sponsored teams against each other in the first game Thursday night, June 6.

Blalock Walters, with their self-selected team, brought their talented roster on the pitch to go against Flynn Law in a friendly match-up. After 50 minutes of play, Team Blalock Walters could not find the net. Flynn Law’s Tyler Robinson, Lexi Sato, Kevin Roman and Chris Culhane were all credited with scoring against Blalock’s veteran goalkeeper Scott Rudacille.

Brother Mark Rudacille, playing for Flynn Law, made nine saves in the game for the win.

On a winning streak, Flynn Law beat defending league champions Sato Real Estate 7-2 the night before on June 5. The second game of the night showed the dominance of Duncan Real Estate, currently in second place. The young team of Island locals defeated Solid Rock Construction 4-2 on Wednesday night and Moss Builders 7-3 Thursday night. The duo of Clancy Vaughan and Joseph “Joey” Hutchinson put up a total of 11 goals in two nights.

Coming into the game after a bye on Wednesday, Gulfview Windows and Doors held on to their first place position with a tie Thursday night against Ross Built Construction.

Ross Built’s Connor Bystrom and Vince Chicaro put the points up for their team, while Keith Mahoney was the lone scorer for Gulfview. The opposing goalies were kept busy on the field with Jordan DeMers’s 10 saves for Gulfview and John Haggerty’s eight saves for Ross Built Construction.

Ross Built Construction defeated a talented Jiffy Lube squad 4-1 the night before, putting the team in third place just ahead of Flynn Law. In the final game of the night, Jiffy Lube took the win from Beach House Real Estate by two goals. Jiffy’s win came thanks to goals by Anil Bkbulut, team captain Danny Anderson and brother Ricky Anderson. Adam Bujarski got the lone goal for Beach House.

Coming off the win against Moss Builders the night before with a score of 3-2, the Beach House Real Estate team stays ahead of Moss Builders, without a win and in last place in the standings.

Thursday, June 27 is the night of the championship game. The competition for the coveted Paul “Ace” Hayward Cup will be played at 8:30 p.m.
