St. Patrick’s Day parade coming to Anna Maria Island

ANNA MARIA ISLAND – The Island is going green during the Anna Maria Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 16 from 4-6 p.m.

“Bring your family, your friends and your green to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon celebrating with the community,” the Facebook event page says.

The parade is presented by Duncan Real Estate, The Center of Anna Maria Island, Duffy’s Tavern and AMI Dolphin Tours.

“The St. Patrick’s Parade has been an Island tradition for many years and has become one of the highlights of spring for islanders and visitors alike,” Duncan Real Estate owner Darcie Duncan said. “It’s wonderful to see everyone take part in the revelry and ‘get their Irish on.’ It’s my national holiday so being the presenting sponsor brings me so much joy watching everyone having so much fun. It’s like finding my own pot of gold. We look forward to seeing everyone along the parade route. Get ready to yell for those beads! Sláinte.”

Duffy’s “Toys for Tots Night” helps to fill Santa’s sack

Duffy’s ‘Toys for Tots Night’ helps to fill Santa’s sack

HOLMES BEACH – It was tough to get a parking spot and every seat was full inside and out at Duffy’s on Friday, Dec. 10 for the 6th Annual Toys for Tots Night.

There was live music by Caroline McKeon, Dave Besley, Scott Blum, Chuck Caudill and Robby Cox for the large crowd to tap their feet to and sing along with while they helped brighten the season for area children in need.

“Because of COVID, we didn’t do the music last year, but we still took donations,” said Peggi Davenport, owner of Duffy’s. “This year’s been great, the Marines came today and picked up a big load of toys that have been coming in for the past couple of weeks.”

Caudill is an area musician and key player in getting this event started seven years ago. In addition to helping get the toys coming in each year, he gets musician friends to come to play each year, and none of them charge a fee.

“I come in here a lot and hang out, and I noticed they were collecting for Toys for Tots,” Caudill said. “I told them they should do an event and have music in here, and they agreed. We got it started and it’s been a success every year.”

All Toys for Tots donation locations and boxes are picked up and distributed by the U.S. Marine Corps. If you see a donation location or would like to stop by Duffy’s and make a donation, you may have a few more days to do so. Just bring a new, unwrapped toy and drop it off. It’s easy and will put a smile on an area child’s face this Christmas.

Clydesdales visit the Island

Budweiser Brewery’s signature advertising logo – a bright red wagon with brass accessories pulled by a team of husky Clydesdale horses – visited Anna Maria Island this afternoon at the invitation of local legend, Duffy’s Tavern.

Co-owner Peggy Davenport, daughter of Duffy’s founder Pat Geyer, rode on the wagon as it moved slowly through the high season traffic between Holmes Beach City Hall Park and Duffy’s. Davenport said she had been trying to get the team of horses out to Duffy’s for years.

The team is one of three the brewery has, each one in a certain region of the country. The song Budweiser uses in its ads played from a red truck that carried the wagon and horses as a team member explained how they take care of each of the eight one-ton horses as a large crowd of locals and Island visitors admired the animals. As sightseers used their cell phones to capture the moment, the Budweiser team showed Davenport what it means when they say “This Bud’s for you.”
