BRADENTON BEACH – Possible code violations at SALT Bar & Table restaurant will be the subject of an Oct. 27 special master hearing.
Police Chief John Cosby currently supervises the city’s code enforcement division and he discussed the pending hearing while giving his code enforcement update during the Aug. 20 city commission meeting. Cosby said Code Enforcement Officer Evan Harbus has been working on several code violations citywide and one of those involves SALT.
“We’re getting ready to take some action about SALT and that will be coming up in October,” Cosby said. “We’re going to have the special master meeting with all the players involved.”
Cosby didn’t specify what the alleged violations were.
Past city commission discussions have centered around the outdoor patio and valet parking at the restaurant, as well as potential code violations. During the April 16 city commission meeting, it was noted that possible code violations at the restaurant were being investigated by the code enforcement department.
“They are working with the property owner to garner compliance,” City Attorney Erica Augello said during that meeting.
SALT Bar & Table does not have a dedicated parking lot, and Commissioner Debbie Scaccianoce said she’s received many complaints from residents about the valet parking at and near the restaurant. Valet parking is prohibited citywide under current code.
Augello said there were questions raised about the SALT patio and valet parking activities.
“During the investigation, there were certain things that were elicited that might have been code violations. One was concrete that was installed without a permit. One was a fence that was installed, I believe, without a permit,” Augello said during the April meeting. “There was a question about outdoor dining and the parking issue.”
Located at 2519 Gulf Drive North, SALT Bar & Table restaurant is owned by 2519 Gulf LLC, a limited liability company that lists Shawn Kaleta as its manager.
