Attendees had a wide variety of food to choose from. – Leslie Lake | Sun

CORTEZ – Attendees at the annual Cortez Community Picnic were treated to a picture-perfect weather day, a wide variety of homemade food and a big helping of neighborhood camaraderie.

Sponsored by the Cortez Village Historical Society (CVHS), the annual community picnic is a long-standing tradition in Cortez, held each year to bring the Cortez community together.

The picnic was held on the Fulford Dock in Cortez on Saturday, April 11. CVHS president Cindy Rodgers welcomed upwards of 75 attendees who each brought a covered dish to share; and Star Fish Company owner Karen Bell donated the fried mackerel and hush puppies. Picnic attendees were reminded to provide recipes, stories and photos for the upcoming new edition of the “Cooking in Cortez,” living maritime cookbook. Cookbook submissions can be emailed to Merry Retus at: R1995@aol.com.
