Let the playoffs begin

Quarter final playoff action took place for the Anna Maria Island Community Center’s adult co-ed soccer league Thursday night as eight teams battled it out for a spot in the semi-finals. In single elimination play, only four teams move forward to play another game.

Sato Real Estate 0 Wash Family Construction 1

The first game of the night found sixth seed Sato Real Estate lose to Wash Family Construction the playoff’s third seed. Despite strong striking attempts by Sato Real Estate, it could not score against goalie Ray Gardner who had 14 saves. The lone goal by Wash Family Construction was made after regulation play during a best out of five penalty kick shoot out against keeper Jason Sato.

Beacon Design 2 Eason Builders 4

In a strong match up, Beacon Design came up two goals short against the regular season’s second place finishers, Eason Builders. Matt Plummer led Eason Builders with two goals. Captain Scott Eason and Joey Ciasullo each had a single goal in the game with an assist by Jeff Walker. Seventh seed Beacon Design saw goals by Omar Polar and Shawn Kaleta. The goalies for each team were kept busy. Goalkeeper Jordan Demers had 10 saves for Beacon and Wes Robinson made nine saves for Eason Builders.

Island Pest Control 1 Jessie’s Island Store 5

The underdog was unable to prevail in the match up between the regular season first place finishers Jessie’s Island Store and the eighth seed Island Pest Control. Captain Oliver Peiterit had the single goal for Island Pest Control, while the team saw action by two goalies: Nate Talucci with nine saves and Troy Shonk with three saves. Jeff Christianson led Jessie’s in scoring with three goals. The team added two additional goals by Perry Pittman and Donald Christianson and an assist by Holly Belton. Goalie Chris Culhane had eight saves for the night.

Slims Place 1
Dojo Martial Arts 4

In the final game of the night, fourth seed Dojo Martial Arts beat the fifth seed Slims Place. In the goal for Dojo, Josh Bernet had nine saves. Chris Chicharo scored two goals, with singles by Adam Bujarski and Chelsey Hoffner. Bujarski also had two assists aiding in his team’s victory. The goalkeeper for Slim’s Place, Will Case, was busy in the net with 11 goals Josh Pettit put Slim’s on the boards with his lone goal.

Semi-final action will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 3 starting at 7 p.m. Wash Family Construction will play Eason Builders in the first game. At 8 p.m., Jessie’s Island Store will take on Dojo Martial Arts.

The championship game will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. A special presentation honoring the contributions to the island community, the Community Center, and to soccer will be presented to Paul “Ace” Hayward at the championship game.
