Eason Builders take cup

The Anna Maria Island Community Center adult co-ed soccer
league came to a close last week with the championship
game between DoJo Martial Arts and Eason Builders. Eason Builders
was the victor, becoming the first recipient of the
Paul "Ace" Hayward Championship Cup.

After semi-final play Wednesday night, domination by the Eason Builders team took them to victory Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Anna Maria Island Community Center against DoJo Martial Arts. Eason Builders finished the adult co-ed soccer league regular season in second place with strong passing and by utilizing the scoring depth of the team. Its effort to capture the Paul “Ace” Hayward Championship Cup was not without its challenges by the fourth seed team.

Adam Buljarski for DoJo Martial Arts was the lone scorer with two goals, while DoJo’s goalkeeper Adam Mott made Eason Builders work for every score. Mott had 14 saves in the championship game.

In goal for Eason Builders, Wes Robinson also had 14 saves. The team spread the scoring among four of its players. Nate Coleman, Joey Ciasullo and Jeff Walker each scored one goal for Eason Builders. Matt Plummer added an additional goal and had one assist. Chris Klotz provided a vital assist in the victory.

The first ever presentation of the Paul “Ace” Hayward Championship Cup was to Scott Eason, captain of Eason Builders. The Championship Cup was established by the Community Center to honor Hayward as a tribute to his overwhelmingly positive influence and inspiration to the Island and soccer communities. Hayward was in attendance to watch the final game of the season. The Championship Cup will be permanently displayed at the Anna Maria Island Community Center to recognize both Hayward and those teams that earn the title each season.
