Sweet start for Tyler’s Ice Cream

BJ Keim, of Island Gourmet Rays, rips the
ball during AMICC co-ed summer softball.
It’s been a perfect start for Tyler’s Ice Cream in the new Anna Maria Island Community Center’s summer co-ed softball season. The league plays on Friday nights and uses the newly modified baseball/softball field at the city of Holmes Beach.
The field does not have sports lighting, so this is the only time of year that daylight extends long enough into the evening to get games in. The evening summer rains have held off, and the Tyler’s Ice Cream team has jumped out to an undefeated 2-0 start.
Solid performances by Rob and Laura Alderson, BT Mastin and Troy Shonk have led the way to the sweet start for the Tyler’s Ice Cream Twins team. On Friday night, it defeated the Island Gourmet Rays 15 – 6 and jumped out to an early lead in the standings.
Softball recreational league play is back on the Island and the atmosphere is laid back and fun. Men and women ranging from their 20s to their 50s can compete side by side with no worries. There are still a few roster spots available on teams for the summer league. For more information on joining a team, contact the Athletic Department at the Community Center.
