Beach Bistro bounces back

Anna Maria Island Sun News Story

Who will get to the ball first - Kyle Parsons, of
Wash Family Construction, or Julius Gomes,
of the Beach Bistro?

This week’s Sun sports Game of the week featured play from the 14-17 year old league. Wash Family Construction desperately needed a win over the Beach Bistro to take the first place position. This was a critical game for Wash Family, and you could feel the sense of urgency from both players and coaches. Wash Family came out like gangbusters and Kyle Parsons scored all three early goals. Julius Gomes finally got the Bistro on the scoreboard with a beautiful shot to the left corner. His second goal came soon after when he dribbled around Wash defenders side to side before perfectly placing the ball into the left corner. Elijah Clay-Chapman, of Wash Family, then dribbled down the right side past two defenders, shot the ball across the crease and in, making the score 4-2.

The Bistro team bounced back with its third goal on a textbook give-and-go pass from Phillip Biddulph to Gomes and back to Biddulph for the goal. Gomes came right back and tied the game, for the first time. He showcased his dominant dribbling skills, going back and forth in front of the net three times between defenders, before carefully tucking it into the net for the tying goal. Garrison Clark then gave a sweet crossing pass onto the foot of teammate Kyle Parsons for Wash Family’s fifth goal and the lead at halftime.

The Beach Bistro struck first in the second half when Gomes hustled to a loose ball in front of the net and passed it to a wide open Biddulph tying the game again. Hunter Parish gave the Bistro team the lead for the first time on a long shot goal that deflected off the goalie. Two minutes later, Garrison Clark dribbled all the way down the left side and shot it into the opposite corner for Wash Family to tie the game 6-6. Again, the Beach Bistro pulled ahead when Hunter Parish gave a long pass to Gomes, who went one-on-one with the goalie and finished it with ease. This time, Wash came back and tied the game when Austin Wash sent a long pass to Parsons who blasted it in.

With the game on the line and tied 7-7, the Wash Family fans went crazy when Parsons found the back of the net and ripped his sixth goal of the game past Max Miller for the lead. Down but not out, and less than two minutes left in the game, the Bistro team bounced back one last time. Gomes sent a great lead pass up to Biddulph in front of the net, who precisely placed the shot into the left corner. This enjoyable game ended in an 8-8 tie and leaves the division open for first place during the last week of play.
