Basketball action heats up as season winds down

The 2010 basketball season is coming to a close as there are only a few remaining games until the playoffs begin and conclude this coming weekend. In Division 3, Connie’s Landscaping and Sandbar have identical 6-3 records and will play each other one more time to determine who will finish the regular season in first place heading into the playoffs. Walter & Associates, of Division 2, finished the year in first place with a 7-1 record and has secured the number one seed and a first round bye. The Gathering Place team of the Premier Division has clinched first place as well with a 7-2 mark to round out the year. It will take on the winner of the game between the 2nd and 3rd place teams to determine the league champion on Saturday. On Saturday, each age division will feature a Championship Game and All-Star Game to wrap up the 2010 season of AMICC basketball. Tuesday, June 1
Instructional Division (5-7)
West Coast Air Conditioning 6 - Jessie’s Island Store 2

Conal Cassidy singlehandedly managed to help his team win by scoring 4 points, all in the first quarter. He sank both of his free throw shots and was aided with another basket by Roli Zeledon later in the game. Javiar Rivera sank the only shot for the Jessie’s team in the close loss.

Division 1 (12-13)
Coastal Orthopedics 31 - A Paradise Realty 27

The rivalry between the only two teams in this division continued as Coastal Orthopedics narrowly edged A Paradise by four points. Buke McCampbell-Hill led all scorers with 12 points to help his team win. Joey Salinas added five points and both Jake Parsons and Maddie Valadie finished with four points in the victory. Josh Zawistoski had an eight-point game, Mikayla Kane had six points and both Blaine Jenefsky and Nehimiah Goode finished with four points for A Paradise Realty. These two teams will play one final time to determine the league champion on Friday.

Premier Division (14-17)
The Gathering Place 47 - Rotten Ralph's 37

Kyle Aritt and Patrick Edwards provided a dominant one-two punch for The Gathering Place as they combined for 27 points, with 15 and 12 points scored respectively. Chandler Hardy and Wyatt Hoffman helped contribute in the win with seven points each, along with a six-point effort by Jerry Mayer to round out the team’s scoring. Rotten Ralph's was led by a 17 point game from Brandon Gengler and 10 point effort from Forrest Schield. The Gathering Place secured its first place seed heading into the playoffs with this win and improved to 6-2 on the year, as Rotten Ralph's fell to 5-4.

Wednesday, June 2
Division 3 (8-9)
Sandbar 19 - Beach Bistro 10

Leo Tilelli led the Sandbar team with six points and was helped with four point games from the trio of William Bernet, Brooke Capparelli and Josh Class. Joe Rogers also chipped in one basket to help his team improve to 6-3 and tied with Connie’s Landscaping for first place heading into the playoffs. The Beach Bistro team saw six points from Andrew Proctor and a pair of points from both Joey Stewart and Trent Shackleford as it fell to 2-8 on the year.

Division 2 (10-11)
Ross Built 18 - Anna Maria Oyster Bar 8

All of Ross Built’s points came from the Ross brothers, as Andrew scored 10 points and Jake finished with eight points to lead their team to victory and improve their record to 5-2 as they sit in second place behind Walter & Associates. The Anna Maria Oyster Bar team had four points from Tyler Yavalar and a pair of points from both Resse Helvey and Emma Moneuse as the team fell to 0-7 on the year.

Premier Division (14-17)
Rotten Ralph’s 51 - Tortilla Bay 31

Rotten Ralph's redeemed its loss from the day before by defeating Tortilla Bay 51-31 courtesy of a 14-point performance by Brandon Gengler and 12-point game by Forrest Schield. Daniel Janisch contributed with 10 points, Luke Shackleford scored six points and J.T. Goode finished with four points to round out the teams scoring. Christian Hightower led his Tortilla Bay team with a 14-point game and received help with eight points from Travis Belsito. However, another six points from Kyle Parsons was not enough as the team dropped to 1-8 as the playoffs approach.

Thursday, June 3
Instructional Division (5-7)
West Coast Air Conditioning 14 - Island Real Estate 2

West Coast Air Conditioning dominated on both sides of the ball as Conal Cassidy delivered a 10-point game, Roli Zeledon scored four points and the defense held its opponent to only one made basket in the 14-2 win. Thomas Heckler made the lone basket for Island Real Estate.

Division 3 (8-9)
Connie’s Landscaping 22 - Beach Bistro 5

Dylan Joseph and Leo Rose led Connie’s Landscaping by scoring eight and six points, respectively. Truman Carlsen finished with four points and eight rebounds to help the victors improve to 6-3. Clayton Wilkinson also chipped in with four points to help Connie’s Landscaping. The Beach Bistro team received two points by both Aiden Grumley and Andrew Proctor, along with one free throw shot made by Joey Stewart to round out the team’s scoring.

Friday, June 4
Instructional Division (5-7)
Jessie’s Island Store 16 - Island Real Estate 2

Both David Daigle and Javiar Rivera had impressive eight-point performances to help lead their team to victory. Hailey Jonatzke scored the lone basket for Island Real Estate. Each team will have one more game this week before the season concludes for the Instructional Division.

Division 2 (10-11)
Beach to Bay Construction 25 - Bob Vita Lawn Service 16

Cameron Brauner led all scorers with a dominant offensive performance as he poured in 15 points to help Beach to Bay Construction improve to 4-4 on the year. Michael Latimer scored six points and both Edward Cullinan and Jean-Paul Russo chipped in with on basket each in the winning effort. Bob Vita Lawn Service received eight points from Adam Clark, six points by Corey Jaques and two points from Mikey Ellsworth as the team fell to 4-4. These two teams will face each other again in the first round of the playoffs as the 3rd and 4th seeds.

Division 2 (10-11)
Walter & Associates 23 - Ross Built 18

Seth Walter and Moriah Goode combined for 21 of the teams 23 points to allow Walter & Associates to improve their overall record to 7-1 and clinch first place heading into the playoffs. The team will wait to challenge the winner of the Beach to Bay Construction vs. Bob Vita Lawn Service game. Ross Built saw eight points from Jake Ross, six from Luke Valadie and four by Andrew Ross.
