Two hoops teams perfect after second week

The 2010 Community Center basketball season is now two weeks old, and thus far two teams have kept their hopes for an unbeaten season alive in this young season, as Connie’s Landscaping of Division 3 and Walter & Associates in Division 2 are 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Connie’s Landscaping picked up a pair of wins this week, a 12-10 victory on Wednesday against the Sandbar restaurant team and a 16-9 win over the Beach Bistro team on Thursday. Dylan Joseph led his team in both games by scoring 6 points and then 8 points the following day. Leo Rose contributed with 6 points of his own to round out the game one victory, and Clayton Wilkinson added 6 points to help Joseph and Connie’s hold on to victory on Thursday.

Walter & Associates earned its first win of the week on Monday by defeating the Anna Maria Oyster Bar 21-7 and courtesy of an impressive 17 point performance by Moriah Goode. The team picked up its third win and pulled ahead into first place by beating Bob Vita’s Lawn Service. Seth Walter sank in 11 points, and Goode hauled in 12 points to seal the 27-14 victory.

Monday, May 10
Division 3 (8-9-year-olds)
Beach Bistro 5 Sandbar 4

Andrew Proctor’s three points and one basket by Joey Stewart gave the Beach Bistro the edge. Joe Rogers put in both of Sandbar’s shots in the close loss.

Premier Division (14-17-year-olds)
The Gathering Place 60
Tortilla Bay 40

Kyle Aritt led all scorers with 23 points for The Gathering Place and he received help from Wyatt Hoffman, who chipped in with an 18-point effort. Tortilla Bay saw 12 points from Tommy Price, 10 points from Christian Hightower and 9 points by Daniel Pimental.

Tuesday, May 11
Instructional Division
(5-7-year-olds)
Jessie’s Island Store 10
def. Island Real Estate 2

David Daigle, of Jessie’s Island Store, did nearly all of the scoring in this game, picking up 8 of the team’s 10 points and helping it to victory. Javier Rivera put in the other basket for Jessie’s to round out the scoring. Island Real Estate’s lone bucket came on a shot by Thomas Heckler.

Division 1 (12-13-year-olds)
Coastal Orthopedics 41
A Paradise Realty 30

Coastal Orthopedics had a 17-6 lead at halftime and never looked back courtesy of 10 points by Joey Salinas and 8-point efforts by Jake Parsons and Lauren Sapienza. A Paradise had top scorers of Blaine Jenefsky with 8 points and 7 points for Josh Zawistoski and Mikayla Kane in the tough loss.

(14-17-year-olds)
Rotten Ralphs 35
The Gathering Place 31

The Gathering Place split its two games this week, narrowly being defeated by Rotten Ralphs. Kyle Aritt sank in 12 points, and Chandler Hardy added 8 more as the team fell to 3-1 on the season but still remains in first place. Rotten Ralphs improved to 2-2 thanks to a huge 20 point game from Forrest Schield and 9 points from Brandon Gengler.

Wednesday, May 12
Division 2 (10-11-year-olds)
Ross Built Construction 21 Beach to Bay Construction 16

A 10-point game by Jake Ross and a basket made by most other team members allowed Ross Built Construction to earn the win. Beach to Bay Construction had 8 points by Cameron Brauner and pair of baskets by Jean-Paul Russo as it remains winless and Ross Built improved to 2-1.

(14-17-year-olds)
Rotten Ralphs 44
Tortilla Bay 37

Rotten Ralphs picked up its second win of the week as Brandon Gengler and Forrest Schield each raked in 12 points, and J.T. Goode added another 10 points. Tortilla Bay made it close after training at halftime thanks to a 17-point game by Tommy Price and another 14 combined points by Christian Hightower and Kyle Parsons. Tortilla Bay fell to 1-3 on the year as Rotten Ralph's win bumped it into second place behind The Gathering Place.

Friday, May 14
Instructional Division
(5-7-year-olds)
Jessie’s Island Store 4
West Coast Air Conditioning 2

One basket from David Daigle and another by Javier Rivera was all that the Jessie’s Island Store needed to secure the victory. West Coast A/C’s lone basket came by Roli Zeledon in this instructional league that focuses on fun and fundamentals for the youngest athletes.

Division 2 (10-11-year-olds)
Beach to Bay Construction 30
Anna Maria Oyster Bar 15

Beach to Bay Construction managed to rebound after losing earlier in the week to defeat the Oyster Bar team. Cameron Brauner and Michael Latimer poured on the points as they each scored 12 to help lead their team to victory. The Oyster Bar had 6 points by Tyler Yavalar, 5 by Reese Helvey and 4 points by Brad Duffman to round out the scoring in the losing effort.
