Minors defeated in Saturday match-up

The team of young Islanders knew they would be up against some solid competition as they traveled into Bradenton this past Saturday, but eventually came up short in their second game of the season. The final score was 12-2, with the Islander squad’s runs scored by Ben Ware and Miles Fisher on a series of walks and steals in the middle part of the lineup.

Emma Monuese took the mound to start the game and was later relieved in the second by Mikey Ellsworth. Ellsworth struck out the side in the inning, but had to be replaced in the third due to the maximum pitch-count rule in Little League early in the season. With the score 9-2 and the time limit of the game approaching, the coaches called in lefty Benjamin Calhoun to pitch. Calhoun and Miles Fisher got the final three outs just as time expired in the game. The team will host its next game at the Community Center on Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. and play again on Saturday, March 7, at G.T. Bray at noon.
