Golfers see increase in their ranks

There are more players and fewer proxies at the Key Royale Golf Course recently, as more seasonal residents arrive.

In tournament action, the team of Frankie Smith-Williams, Gordon McKinna, Jerry Brown and Al Morgan took first place in the co-ed weekly handicap tournament on Friday, Jan. 2, with a best-ball-of-foursome score of 27. Jane Winegarden, Sue Hokum, Jim Finn and Matt Behan tied with Nell Bergstrom, Rose Slomba, Earl Huntzinger and Teddy Morgan for second place with scores of 28. Huntzinger had a chip-in on the sixth hole and Morgan had one on the fifth hole.

Jim Helgeson, Al Morgan, Al Gunn and Jerry Micho teamed up to win first place in the men’s nine-hole weekly handicap tournament with a best-ball-of-foursome score of 22. Second place went to Russ Olson, Matt Behan, Larry Fowler and Charlie Knapp with a score of 25.

Vince Fanton, Ernie Hauser, John Sagert and Bob Landgren took first place in the men’s 18-hole weekly handicap tournament with a best-ball-of-foursome score of 47. Second place went to Omer Trolard, Bill Gallagher, Don LaTorre and Bob Dickinson with a 48; third place went to Chuck Boes, Tom Lewis, Bob Lamp, Bob Sayles with a 50; and fourth place went to Jim MacVicar, Pieter Thomassen, Jim Krumme and a proxy with a 55.
