Youngest footballers learning game at The Center

ANNA MARIA – Each Tuesday night, The Center’s gridiron becomes the training ground for the 4- to 5-year-old flag footballers. This season’s clinic, sponsored by Sandbar, has two teams, more than 10 players on the roster, and two great volunteer coaches.

Coach Dhaval Patel and Kevin Shook take the field each week, not only teaching the rules and skills of the game but also sharing their love of the game and working with kids.

At the end of the season, the youngest players in the league look to the 6- to 7-year-old league as the next level of play, before competitive recreational play begins when they turn eight.

In week four action, the adult flag football league’s standings were rattled as the Sandbar team, coming in with the only win in the season, defeated the undefeated Solid Rock Construction squad by two touchdowns.

Solid Rock Construction now shares the same record at 3-1-0 with Prosper Bradenton at the top of the charts going into the second half of the regular season.

As the adult flag football season looks to the playoffs in the coming weeks, the adult indoor soccer league struggles to make a game happen. With two forfeits last week, the match-up between Sato Real Estate and Gulfview Windows & Doors ended in a tie, after each team scored seven goals. No winner gave each team a 1-0-1 record going into week three of play.
